Temp Vents

Temp Vents are replacement vents for construction grade vents on many houses in our area. Their usefulness is reflected in:

  1. Moisture control. In conjunction with a vapor barrier, correction of moisture condensation on sub-floors which can cause molds, mildews and fungi along with making conditions conducive to wood destroying organisms.
  2. Ventilation is recommended to mitigate excess radon levels.
  3. Rodent and Insect Control. Broken vents in a crawlspace foundation allow entry points for all manner of animals, rodents and insects.
  4. Vents may be required in flood hazard areas.
  5. Reduced heat loss due to the vents automatically closing at low temperatures and gradually opening to full open position at approximately 72 degrees.

Crawlspaces and Moisture Control

Left untreated, crawlspace moisture can wreak havoc on a house.

Crawlspace construction is a popular practice in many areas of the country. However, one of the inherent problems with crawlspace construction is the control of moisture under the house. Moisture can contribute to conditions that can lead to a number of problems – some with serious and expensive consequences, including:

Growth of spores and fungus.

Warped wood that can cause floors to buckle and squeak.

Mold and Mildew.

Wet insulation that loses its R-Value, and falls away from the sub-floor.

An irritating musty smell.

Creating an environment attractive to powder-post beetles.
